Boomers Celebrate Friendships, Sport o’Kings Tradition

firepitThe Masters golf tournament. The World Series in baseball. The Super Bowl in professional football and the college equivalent, BCS Championship. Wimbledon, the Stanley Cup, the Final Four, Daytona 500, the Olympics… whether you are a regular follower of sports or don’t know a home run from a field goal, certain sporting events require at least a nod of recognition, especially when the event is as steeped in tradition as the Kentucky Derby.

This Saturday, May 6, the 143rd Annual “Run for the Roses” takes place at Churchill Downs, in Lexington, Kentucky. Known as “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports,” more than 150,000 people will flock to the race course, and millions more will tune in to watch the horses run on television, as a field of twenty 3-year-old Thoroughbreds vie for the first jewel in this year’s Triple Crown.

Part of the festivities includes time-honored traditions such as mint juleps served in silver cups and a stunning array of hats, fascinators, and other distinctive headwear donned by Derby aficionados. Derby parties are part of the fun, as armchair spectators feed off the excitement of the story told about each horse, each jockey, and each trainer. Even if one has never lifted a foot into a stirrup or stroked the velvet nose of a horse, the thrill of Derby Day is palpable.

At Windsong, Derby parties take place in Community Clubhouses and private living rooms, where families and friends gather in luxurious spaces to enjoy both the event itself and the joy of each other’s company.

The Clubhouse features a catering kitchen and plenty of seating, thoughtfully arranged for both television viewing and conversation.

Each home is designed with elegant spaces where people naturally gather: light-filled great rooms that flow from luxurious kitchens, and open to private courtyards. Each space flows into the next, and is both comfortable and inviting.

When the winner is draped with his blanket of roses and the jockey and trainer offer their words of joy and gratitude, Windsong homeowners feel the same sense of exuberance as they recognize the unique combination of luxury and tranquility in their dream homes.
