Active Adults – Remember To Spring Forward… and Get Active!

spring forward

Despite the weird little snowburst last week (it lasted about a minute), the weather is starting to feel like Winter is packing up to leave town – just in time

for Daylight Saving Time (this weekend, Sunday, March 13, be sure to set your clocks AHEAD one hour before going to bed), and the official First Day of Spring (Sunday, March 20).

And Springtime in Atlanta means a plethora of festivals, activities, events, and more, at some of the loveliest venues in the Southeastern United States.

If you have been looking forward to beautiful weather so you can get out and see what being an ACTIVE Adult is all about, here’s a sample for you:

Atlanta in 50 Objects – at the Atlanta History Center (through July 10). In 2014, event organizers enlisted the input of Atlanta residents to contribute their ideas about what object “defines” this city. This exhibit includes the 50 objects that made the cut, including the hand prints of Willie B (Zoo Atlanta’s Silverback gorilla patriarch), Georgia Tech’s “Ramblin’ Wreck,” an original Coca Cola sign, the manuscript of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s 1964 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, and more.

Visit for more information.

Creatures of Light – Nature’s Bioluminescence – at Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Learn about lightning bugs, deep-sea fish, and all the creatures that glow in the night. Event runs through August 14. Visit to learn more.

The Atlanta Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. Celebrate your Inner Irish (whether you’re Irish or not!), at the 134th parade, held in Midtown at 12 noon this Saturday, March 12. For more information and the parade route, visit

Orchid Daze at the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Fuqua Orchid Center, through April 10. The event features Orchid Market Weekends, Orchid Care Clinics, “Vanilla Sunday” (with the fabulous Vanilla Orchid), and more! Visit, for more information.

Spring Atlanta Home Show at the Cobb Galleria Centre, is the largest Home Show in Georgia, featuring the latest design, decorating, and lifestyle ideas from hundreds of vendors. An Atlanta tradition, held March 18-20. Visit for information.

Daffodil Festival at Gibbs Gardens in Ball Ground, through mid-April. Millions of daffodils are in bloom, among other Springtime flowers, trees, and shrubs. Visit to learn more.

At Windsong, we strive to create communities that have easy access to local restaurants, health care, travel routes, and more. Among those priorities is an opportunity to enjoy a variety of entertainment options – both indoors and out.
