Read A Road Map Week Encourages Local Exploration

April Fool’s Day takes all the attention away from other notable celebrations and observances that occupy the first week of the first full month of Spring, including the designation of the first week of April as Read A Road Map Week. We invite you to explore some of the offerings in Bartow County, just a short drive north on I-75 from all of our Windsong communities.

Bartow County is home to dozens of notable destinations, including:

Etowah Indian Mounds in Cartersville – one of the largest Indian mounds in North America, the 54-acre Etowah Indian Mounds is home to six protected earthen mounds, a plaza and village site, and artifacts made of wood, seashells, stone, and more. Thousands of Native Americans occupied the site from 1000 to 1550 A.D., and Etowah Mounds is the most intact Mississippian Culture site in the Southeast. (Open Wednesday through Saturday).

Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, is the second largest art museum in Georgia, and houses the largest permanent exhibit of Western art in the United States. In addition, its special exhibit galleries host six to ten temporary exhibits each year.

Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville is home to acclaimed hands-on science programs, as well as a number of distinct permanent galleries. The Weinman Mineral Gallery features 50 cases filled with gems, gold, and Georgia minerals; the Fossil Gallery houses enormous skeletal displays of dinosaurs, reptiles, giant mammals, and a Georgia underwater exhibit featuring giant fish and reptiles native to the state; and Science in Motion, a tour through 100 years of transportation technology. Tellus also features a state-of-the-art Planetarium and Observatory, with astronomy programs.

Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville – built around Woodlands, the original manor house and estate built by Godfrey Barnsley for his wife, Julia, Barnsley Resort features a relaxing spa, golf, horseback riding, outstanding dining and on-site accommodations at one of the resort’s six cottages.

Whether you’re reading a traditional road map (does anyone even have those anymore?), or tapping the information into your car’s GPS, you’ll find that we’ve created each Windsong community to serve as your peaceful oasis from the hustle and bustle, while maintaining convenient access to nearby shopping, dining, entertainment and travel routes.

Welcome home to Windsong – Where Life’s A Breeze!
