Are You Irish On Saint Patrick’s Day?

The time change is behind us and Spring is within view. Smack dab in the middle of both is Saint Patrick’s Day, and Georgia is the place to be to celebrate with a parade, a pipe band, and a pint of green beer!

If you want to be a part of one of the country’s oldest Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations, Savannah is the place to be. For more than 200 years, Georgia’s port city has hosted a multi-day festival (this year’s Irish celebration began in mid-February!), which draws more than 300,000 visitors to the city each year.

On tap for 2014 is the Saint Patrick’s Celebration on the River, beginning Friday, March 14. The celebration continues through Monday, March 17, when the official parade takes place, featuring 350 floats, Irish pipe bands, and more.

Of course, accommodations in Savannah are hard to come by during its most festive week of the year. If you’re looking for a parade a little closer to home, trek to Midtown Atlanta on Saturday, March 15, for the city’s 132nd Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade.

The famed Budweiser Clydesdales join the Atlanta celebration this year, which will also include Bagpipe & Drum Corps, clowns, dancers, and floats, in addition to Members of the Hibernian Benevolent Society, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Clan Na NGael, the Fire Emerald Society of Metro Atlanta, and more!

Of course, no Atlanta Saint Patrick’s Day event calendar would be complete without the Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub’s Sixth Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party. The pub takes to the street outside its doors to accommodate the hundreds of guests who enjoy traditional Irish pub fare, music from local Irish musicians and, of course, beer! This year, OBD will debut its own beer, Sassie Lassie Irish Red Ale, created by Monday Night Brewing – and the party will take place on BOTH Saturday, March 15, and Monday, March 17!

Two locations: Crabapple and Brookhaven. For more information, visit www.oldeblinddog.com.

You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy Saint Patrick’s Day, but having a home that is convenient to event venues is certainly a plus.
