If you have turned on the television or opened a magazine or newspaper any time since mid-summer, you know that we are in the midst of Medicare Open Enrollment, which began on October 15 and continues through December 7, 2013.
Medicare is the health insurance program that, since July 30, 1965, has covered Americans who are age 65 or older, as well as people under the age of 65 who have certain disabilities or illnesses.
Of the many changes that have occurred in regard to health care in 2013, individuals who qualify for Medicare will notice some additional services that are covered, without charging a Part B coinsurance or deductible. Preventive services such as mammograms and colonoscopies are now covered without additional fees, as is a yearly “Wellness Visit.”
The “Wellness Visit” is designed to encourage people to visit their health care providers to learn more about their current health status, and to discuss prevention programs based on current risk factors.
Your “Wellness Visit” includes a “Health Risk Assessment” questionnaire that will help your provider learn more about your health history, your current prescriptions, general medical measurements such as height, weight, and blood pressure, and screening for any cognitive impairment.
Current health and risk factors will allow your doctor to develop a screening schedule, as well as a list of recommendations for routine treatments and immunizations.
The “Wellness Visit” is the time to discuss anticipated changes in diet or exercise for the upcoming year as well. Let your health care provider know if you have experienced any changes in your ability to perform activities you routinely enjoy, as well as plans to add strength or cardiovascular training to your fitness regimen, such as joining a gym, or taking up cycling, running, or yoga.
Windsong homeowners have the perfect opportunity to add healthy activities to their lifestyle, with walkable streets and a clubhouse with fitness center, as well as nearby amenities such as rivers, lakes, walking and biking trails, and more. Neighbors with similar life experiences and health expectations make for exceptional accountability partners, too, so there’s always someone waiting to join you for a workout, or try the latest eatery for a healthy meal.
And when you feel healthy, life is more enjoyable, which is why we say, Welcome to Windsong – Where Life’s A Breeze!
