Active Retirement Living – Dance into Halloween

The best thing about Halloween is that it’s a holiday best suited for, well, everyone of all ages! From babies up to boomers, it’s the one time of year to abandon all convention and seriousness and just have fun! In the spirit of fun, this weekend has lots to offer active adults, so we’ve picked our celebratory best bets…

The Atlanta Ballet is full of experts in getting deep into character, so this Halloween’s ballet is no different, with performances of Moulin Rouge–The Ballet continuing just through Sunday the 31st at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Choreographed by Jorden Morris, the dancers will transport you to the bohemian world of Paris with their spirited cancan steps and cabaret dancing, and sure to be gorgeous costumes. Through Sunday, Oct. 31.

Roswell’s Chattahoochee Nature Center, just a short drive from Windsong’s senior communities, is the perfect place to take the grandchildren or the whole family. The annual Halloween Hikes fundraiser isn’t scary, but captures the adventure of the holiday with a well-lit hike through the forest where costumed woodland creatures will educate and tell stories. Arts and crafts, musical entertainment, games and a bonfire make this a no-brainer for the whole family. Friday, Oct. 29, 7-10pm.

The Earl Smith Strand Theatre in Marietta invites you and your mature friends to dress up and gather for a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 thriller Rear Window. This isn’t for the little kids, as the film is a bit scary, but adults can appreciate the look back in the history of scary movies along with a live organ variety show and sing-along before the show. Sunday, Oct. 31, 7pm.

If you’re into the supernatural, paranormal or just plain spooky, the cities of Marietta and Roswell are both host to ghost tours this weekend. Hop on the Marietta Trolley Co. car for a cruise through scary sites and stories in the cemetery, or take a walking tour beginning at the Marietta Wine Market, which includes a glass of wine with your tall tales. In Roswell, a husband and wife paranormal investigating team take tours from Roswell Square through goose bump-inducing spots such as an old house where the town’s criminals were hanged.;

Whether you choose to be frightened or entertained this Halloween, have an adventure to remember!
