At any given time there are probably 25 different live performances happening in metro Atlanta. But playing this weekend through October 3rd is a classic musical that baby boomers will not want to miss!
The Tony Award-winning hit Broadway musical, The Music Man, is currently on a brief run at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre in downtown Marietta, just a short drive from Windsong Properties’ senior living communities.
First a runaway success in 1957, the favorite musical is sure to bring back nostalgic memories for any active adults who remember it from the first time around. What makes the performance such a must-see, is that it’s perfect for the whole family, and can hold the attention span of a child as well as an adult.
The story, with lyrics and music by Meredith Wilson, is about a con man named Harold Hill, who poses as a band leader and sells instruments to naïve townsfolk in rural Iowa before running out of town with their money. Amid the memorable, sing-along songs like “Seventy-six Trombones” and “’Till There Was You,” there’s also a romance between Hill and the librarian, which will definitely captivate the older generations who have a soft spot for love stories.
This musical kicks off the Atlanta Lyric Theatre’s 31st season, and is an excellent excuse to get a little culture this weekend. So gather the troops and get ready for some rousing American standards!
